"The net result is the absurdity of insisting on a system in the first place."
If that is true, Kōji Kumeta must be an anti-establishist (jk)

While that is the joke in this particular chapter (and I'm sure that some other chapters would have touch on an issue similar to this), I also do think that it is highly likely to be some kind of commentary that the author has to the (Japanese) society.

The lack of adequacy of some of the reasons to accept or deny people is definitely part of the joke - I'd note it's an underlying theme of SZS that sometimes things get overanalyzed and simultaneously some things are accepted at face value. The net result is the absurdity of insisting on a system in the first place.

"I’m not sure any developer worth his salt would actually advertise security where there really is none."
While I do hope that is always true, there are enough news about security breaches that it is obvious some developer don't know stuff about security. (Example: http://consumerist.com/2011/06/how-hackers-stole-200000-citi-accounts-by-exploiting-basic-browser-vulnerability.html it's a bank website for crying outloud).

That being said, it is possible to make it harder for someone to guess correctly if the length of the ID is longer and maybe use a larger set of characters. For example, Youtube uses a ID of 11 character, with numbers, both lowercase and uppercase characters, and finally special character so, therefore there would be around 94^11 (or 2^73) possible ID's, which while still not fully secure my today's cryptography standards (most modern cryptography scheme needs 2^128 steps or more to break, which is computationally impossible for now), you might need to running super computers in order to find one by brute force. [ok, wow I don't know if that added to the discussion, but just wanted to talk about it]

End of the day, ya, it is not security if there is a hint chance that your private data can be accessed by anyone you didn't give authority to see. Sounds like most of my stuff online aren't secure, since the company staff can see them (hello Dropbox).

Your article seems to be based around the idea that "regardless of what kind of schema is used to create these URLs, a random person hitting random URLs can still guess them, thus it's not secure." That in itself is true. I'm not sure any developer worth his salt would actually advertise security where there really is none.

That said, check out this random screenshot of my Activity Monitor showing iTunes running away with my RAM: http://puu.sh/nISB

While I would like to think that there are still many fans out there who would like to see more Gundam/mecha and consume it, I do think that the genre's is bleak because of the following reasons:

1. Technology had progressed hugely since the first Gundam. Computers nowadays don't take a whole room, but can fit in your pocket. Technology doesn't look large and stuck out anymore, but is now integrated with most people. Therefore, mecha, large pieces of robots, doesn't seem as relevant anymore.
- This is why we now see anime like Time of Eve

2. Secondly, technology have progressed different from back then, with space expenditure seemingly less likely as before.

Ya, this is why mecha (large block of technology) is a fading genre. It just so seem distant to them. (and if they don't want realistic, then stuff like TTGL suffice =P)

And ya, I did go back and rewatched bits of the TTGL movie, good stuff.

I'm really glad you brought up Ring of Gundam. I believe that Gundam, and the mecha genre it created is geared towards an audience that has moved on. The themes and messages in old-school mecha don't strike the same chords anymore. We need something new. We need to move beyond robots.

(except TTGL, that shit was cash.)
